What is robotic hip replacement?
Robotic hip replacement is total hip replacement in which a robotic arm helps the surgeon carry out a plan made for your hip. Before surgery, a CT scan of your hip and pelvis is turned into a 3D model. Dr. Arun uses it to choose the implant sizes and plan the position and angle of the new socket and stem.
During the operation, Dr. Arun guides the robotic arm as it prepares the socket and places the cup within the boundaries of the plan. The plan also helps balance leg length and hip offset, which affect how natural the hip feels when you walk. The robot never operates on its own; Dr. Arun performs the surgery from start to finish.
Robotic hip replacement is available at Renova Hospital, Kompally, for patients from Secunderabad, Alwal, Bowenpally and across Hyderabad with hip arthritis, AVN and other conditions that have worn out the hip joint.
Who is robotic hip replacement for?
Robotic total hip replacement is considered for:
You may be a candidate if you have:
- Groin, thigh or buttock pain when walking
- Pain at night or at rest
- Stiffness that makes shoes and socks difficult
- A limp or a leg that feels shorter
- X-rays showing a worn hip joint
- Pain that medicines and physiotherapy no longer control
Robotic or conventional hip replacement?
Both are total hip replacements. Dr. Arun explains which approach suits your hip, your bones and your goals.
How robotic hip replacement works
From your first scan to walking again, these are the steps at Renova Hospital:
- Consultation and CT scan. Dr. Arun examines your hip and X-rays. If robotic surgery suits you, a CT scan of your hip and pelvis is taken.
- Your 3D hip plan. The scan becomes a 3D model. Implant size, socket angle, leg length and offset are planned for your anatomy.
- Robotic-arm assisted socket preparation. Dr. Arun guides the robotic arm to prepare the socket and place the cup within the planned boundaries.
- Stem placement and checks. The stem and ball are placed, and leg length and stability are checked against the plan.
- Early walking and physiotherapy. The physiotherapy team helps you stand and walk with support, then guides your recovery.
Benefits of robotic hip replacement
Recovery after robotic hip replacement
Recovery follows the same path as hip replacement, guided by Dr. Arun and the physiotherapy team. Results vary from patient to patient.
- In hospital First steps You stand and walk with a walker under supervision.
- [First 2 weeks] Walking at home Walking with support, hip precautions and daily exercises.
- [Weeks 3 to 6] Getting stronger Support is reduced as strength and balance improve.
- [Around 3 months] Back to routine Most people return to normal daily life, with a review by Dr. Arun.
Before you decide
- It is still hip replacement. Robotic assistance improves planning and placement; the same care is needed after surgery.
- A CT scan is needed. The 3D plan is made from a CT scan taken before surgery.
- Ask about suitability. Dr. Arun explains whether robotic or conventional surgery suits your hip.
